"The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has updated the safety standard for infant bath seats to align with the new voluntary standard ASTM F1967-24. This update, effective January 4, 2025, may be delayed if significant adverse comments are received.

Under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), CPSC is required to assess and adopt mandatory standards for infant products, which can be stricter than voluntary standards to reduce injury risks. The mandatory safety standard for infant bath seats was originally based on ASTM F1967–08a, with added modifications to enhance safety.

When a voluntary organization revises a standard, CPSC has a process to adopt these updates. With this change, the ASTM F1967–24 standard will become effective 180 days after notification, provided no significant adverse feedback is received. This update aims to ensure higher safety standards in infant bath seats while supporting ongoing product safety improvements.
