Consumer Goods (Infant Products) Information Standard 2024

The Consumer Goods (Infant Products) Information Standard 2024 is a new instrument that will take effect on 19 January 2026. It is designed to ensure compliance with safety standards for infant products under subsection 134(1) of the Australian Consumer Law, part of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.

Scope and Exclusions:

• The standard applies specifically to infant products.
• It excludes accessories, products regulated by other information standards or safety standards, medical devices under the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989, and products designed to carry an infant on another person's body.

Requirements for Infant Products:

• Assembly and Use Instructions:
  • Must include instructions for assembly, folding or collapsing, mattress dimensions, height adjustments, and relevant safety and maintenance information.
• Product Markings:
  • Products must be marked with the manufacturer's name, country of origin, and the name of the Australian importer or distributor.
• Warning Labels:
  • Warnings must be clear, visible, prominent, and durable, featuring "WARNING" in uppercase letters and an internationally recognized safety alert symbol.
• Packaging Requirements:
  • External packaging must display the required warnings.
  • Plastic packaging must include a warning about suffocation risks.
