Health Canada has updated the Natural Health Products (NHPs) Regulations to include Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements aimed at ensuring the safety and quality of NHPs. These changes apply to manufacturers, packagers, labellers, importers, and distributors.
Key Areas of Change:
Product and Label Management: Updated guidelines to prevent cross-contamination during manufacturing.
Contractor Inspections: Requirements for inspections to ensure GMP compliance across contractors.
Homeopathic Products: Special procedures for GMP compliance related to homeopathic products.
Documentation and Control: Requirements for good documentation practices, material control, sanitation, and recall systems.
Record-Keeping: Clear responsibilities for maintaining production and batch records across different roles in the NHP supply chain.
Public Consultation:
The public consultation period for the updates will run from 15-Oct-2024 to 16-Dec-2024.
These revisions align with Part 3 of the NHP Regulations and are intended to strengthen the overall safety and quality assurance processes for natural health products in Canada.
